What part of your brain is dominant?

Posted on June 10th, 2008

I came across a test the other day that can show you which part of your brain is more dominant.

If you see the dancer spin clockwise you are ‘right’ brain dominant (creative), whereas anti-clockwise is ‘left’ brain dominant (logical).  You can even make it switch directions if you focus!

The test can be found here

Whilst I am unsure about how ’scientifically sound’ this test is - I think it could have some very useful applications.  For example, advertising can be targeted at people - based on their thoughts.

Think about a company such as Dell, running this type of test for a new laptop.  Potentially, customers could be shown an add - dependent upon their thought patterns.

Ad for left brain Ad for right brain
- Stress the technical specs of the computer
- Accentuate value
- Use colourful emotional language to focus on the ‘experience’
- Use symbology and imagery

This type of segmentation might add something to the old gender, location, income etc ways of generalizing your target market.

Even if this particular test holds no scientific validity, I think it’s a great step forward in really understanding how people think and leveraging that for improved marketing.

I found a great test that will assess your Entreprenurial Personality and give you a score out of 100.

Young Entrepreneurs Will Change The World

Posted on June 6th, 2008

A lot of people are sadly resistant to change.  They grow comfortable with a particular state of affairs and then dismay at any stimulus that shakes this up.  This can be simply typified by the fact that people argue a lot.  This is because we would rather prove someone wrong with our view of the situation, then stand down and adopt a better one.

Change is inevitable in life.  It is a consistent fact that not everything will stay the same.  It is actually completely ludicrous to expect things to stay the same.  Yet the human condition acclimatizes to a set of circumstances and sometimes resists anything incongruent with this state.  A change is often viewed as a threat to your current situation, and not an opportunity to learn and grow.

Galileo’s initial theory of the Sun and not the Earth being the centre of the solar system was met with forceful resistance from the Church and resulted initially in disgrace and mockery (What an entrepreneur!).

Entrepreneurs on the other hand embrace change.  They key distinction is that a good entrepreneur sees change as an opportunity rather then a threat

                    growth

They use inevitable societal, technological and cultural changes to construct ideas, innovate businesses and even stimulate world movements.  The increased worldwide fuel prices have inspired entrepreneurs/Inventors such as Stan Meyer who have found ways to run your car on water.

A German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer once said…

“All truth goes through three steps:  First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.  Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.”

It is the entrepreneur that will initially step out of the box to seek this truth

It is the entrepreneur who will innovate and create - rather then resist and debate!

The Young Entrepreneur has allies!

Posted on June 4th, 2008

a young entrepreneurs mastermind I would love all my readers to have access to every possible resource that is helpful in our never-ending quest for success and knowledge!

I would like to draw your attention to another blog that populates the ‘young entrepreneurs’ niche.

*GASP*…YES…I am telling you to go to another blog!  Hopefully the first of many other great resources for us young entrepreneurs!

The reason why I am bringing attention to this blog is because they are running an initiative to pool together other blogs about entrepreneurship.  This is a fantastic thing as it makes relevant resources much easier to find and brings all young entrepreneurs closer (*warm moment*).

The exact blog I am referring to is called the YoungEntrepreneur.com and you can find the post I’m referring to here

I must commend them on a fantastic choice for their blog name!  If I wasn’t at all concerned with sticking my name in the URL I would have definitely tried to steal it from them (Definitely don’t know how to ’steal’ a domain name)! Read more »

Failure - Critical for a young entrepreneurs success!

Posted on June 4th, 2008

a young entrepreneurs horse to success!

One of my favourite quotes is from Think and Grow Rich (Napolean Hill), and it states that “a relentless pursuit that doesn’t recognize failure” is a key element to success.  In other words - To keep going no matter what short term failure comes your way.  I think a lot fewer young entrepreneurs would give up if they realised that short-term failure is a CRITICAL element of success! Networking GENIUS for young entrepreneurs!

Posted on June 1st, 2008

I was chatting to one of my close friends Joel, about what he thought was the serious ‘break’ in his career.  He said it was getting a graduate position at JP Morgan straight out of university (a massive investment firm).  He has since moved on from this position to do other things but still says the experience he got there was invaluable.

I knew my friend (who didn’t get the best grades or anything) and I also knew the standards JP Morgan must have for their graduates - SO I WAS CONFUSED.  Without sounding too rude I prodded him for more information on how he got the job.

Why is innovation no longer encouraged at school?

Posted on May 29th, 2008

Why is employment the MAIN GOAL?

In my experiences of the education system in Australia, from a very young age I was put down a predetermined career path.  Here is my view of ‘the process’.  You start off in school going through the education system where you may or may not go to a tertiary level.  The logical next step is to get a job out of university - that will ultimately pay the bills, hopefully buy you a house and a couple of holidays.

Along the way, most people are constantly fed mantras like “ a good education gives you a good job which means you will be successful“.  This put a long held belief in my head that I needed a good job to be successful (recently dis-proven :-)).

Now I got no bone to pick with getting a good education.  Hell, I can count just as good as the next man.  But my beef is with the JOB (As in Employment = Success).  This mantra is harped upon more then anything.

And yes, a lot of people are comfortable in jobs and I’m not having a go at them.  Jobs can provide a great income, as well as a wealth of experience.  Read more »

3 TARGETED HEADLINE techniques!

Posted on May 22nd, 2008

In the previous episode…

Hello fellow young entrepreneurs!  In the last post, we talked about exactly why the headline of your copy is so important.  If you missed it, well you might as well just click “Back” right now (only kidding!…Find it here!).

Basically, after having talked a lot of theory about WHY headlines are so important, we are now going to take an example product and show 3 different techniques to write a good headline for it. Read more »

Why copy HEADLINES will either MAKE OR BREAK your product sales

Posted on May 19th, 2008

Why all the fuss?

The headline is critically important in selling.  In most cases, a potential customer will not even give your sales copy a go if the headline doesn’t SCREAM BENIFITS to them.  Like they say, you only get to make 1st impressions once.

There are so many Internet products that a customer can spend their money on.  So why yours?  Well…why?  Use your headline to TELL THEM exactly why.  The ‘why’ answer should be so good that they will invest the next 3-30 minutes reading your sales copy.
